This is the place for discussing ways to improving our management of materials and stuff, by following proven ways of conservation. After serious thought and with my recent move, I am persuaded to create and moderate this group for practical ways to de-clutter and simplify ‘our’ stuff.
Rather than simply recycling or throwing out items or things unnecessarily, this is a group also dedicated to sharing information about how to preserve and keep important collections and stuff working or useful. (This was formerly in the group ‘Fix to Keep It Useful’ but has now merged with this larger group to make things simple.)
If there are items or systems that can be fixed, repaired, or maintained to extend their practical reasons for keeping, whether they be useful electronics, electrical appliances, or simply anything else, regardless if they high-tech or not, then you are welcome to share your projects and activities here.
Popular categories include: vintage and new computers, telephones, radio and televisions, stoves, fridges, dishwashers, automobiles, furniture, houses, etc… As time goes on, additional categories may be added with hashtag references for sorting purposes.
At first, I was only going to do electronics, but then realized that this concept and focus of fixing things should be expanded to included all things and that this is more important than just having a narrow focus, and creating multiple groups of similar activities and task.
So, this group is also created to help me with my top 5 strengths: Strategic, Belief, Restore, Responsibility, and Learn. These are from StrengthsFinders 2.0 and I hope to connect with like-minded people.
I hope that you will feel comfortable to introduce yourself, and join in here, and please share what you are able to fix, repair, and maintain or in other words, preserve and restore.
And keep in mind that the Repair fits into the overall materials conservation process of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
